An avant-garde supergroup sounds like a contradiction, but GOD made it feel entirely possible. Their 1992 debut Possession pulls together a remarkable cast including John Zorn, Tim Hodgkinson, Steve Blake, Gary Smith, Kevin Martin, Justin K Broadrick, John Edwards and Lou Ciccotelli.

The result is a fierce, shape-shifting collision you could call industrial jazz: crushing chords worthy of Swans, free-jazz skronk recalling early 70s Miles at his most atonal, and sudden flashes of fragile beauty. For all its weight and chaos, it still swings, which is part of what makes it such a rewarding listen.

This first-ever LP release comes remastered for the format and pressed on double-barreled tan smoke vinyl, housed in a gatefold jacket. A genuine cult classic, and one that more than lives up to its reputation.
