Psicofásico

Bolivia has a remarkable garage rock history, and alongside Peru it issued a huge number of raw, resourceful '60s recordings. With imported Anglo-American records hard to come by, local bands cut versions of the sounds they loved, bringing new rock music to home audiences.

What makes this EP so special is The Silver Pumpkins going for cult favourites over obvious staples, taking on The Seeds and 13th Floor Elevators as well as Cream and Jimi Hendrix. Released on the Bolivian Psicofásico label, it pairs Pushing Too Hard with You’re Gonna Miss Me.

The young band’s limited chops and rough recording setup only add to the impact. The originals by Roky Erickson and company come through with even more grit here. An exceptionally rare original and a fascinating piece of Bolivia’s '60s rock story, now reissued for the first time.
