When Maggie Bell launched her solo career after the break-up of her band Stone The Crows in 1973, the poll-winning Scots blues and soul singer released two powerful, critically acclaimed studio albums. Repertoire is proud to re-release both albums on CD, with liner notes by Chris Welch comprising new interviews with Maggie Bell, who tells the stories behind the songs and remembers this important period in her career. The first, Queen Of The Night (1974), was produced by the legendary Jerry Wexler and features an excellent selection of songs, notably ‘Caddo Queen,’ JJ Cale’s ‘After Midnight,’ John Prine’s ‘Souvenirs’, and the country classic ‘A Woman Left Lonely.’ With Steve Gadd on drums and Luther Vandross providing backing vocals, Maggie sings her heart out and the album’s success led to the follow-up Suicide Sal in 1975.
