This boxset documents the start of a long career for Ed Sanders and The Fugs. Hundreds of boxes in his Woodstock residence have been hiding the story of a long journey as a songwriter, arranger and beatnik poet. A true perfectionist, he applied extreme care even in his demos recordings, as he was able to produce quality tracks in his home studios. Several rare and early tracks from The Fugs shows the wilder side of things, including their first concert ever! One year after, the Fugs are joined by Allen Ginsberg in a heartfelt blues session, miraculously preserved for posterity by Fugs producer Richard Alderson. During the 60’s Summer Of Love, they were prominent members of the Antiwar movement and constantly subjected to threats and reprisals by the establishment. The more political hippies and beatniks started the Yippie movement at this time. Their aim was clear: to increase the political pressure to end the war in Vietnam. During the 80’s Sanders recorded numerous albums with The Fugs and one of his finest moments is a heartfelt tribute to Janis Joplin, a very close friend with a common background. Previously unreleased demo of “Song for Janis Joplin” is extremely well executed, more than nine minutes of extreme sensitivity. Finally, when he made his comeback in 1981 he brought with him his new invention, the Pulse Lyre, which enabled him to perform alone with a profiled and intense instrumental expression. Rare musical documents throughout the boxset, mostly unreleased and some recently discovered. Presented on 4 cd’s in a hard book format , with sleevenotes from Ed Sanders and Peter Olufsen.
