richmond's cough deliver thoroughly massive, psychedelic doom on their aptly titled relapse debut 'ritual abuse.' five epic tracks covered in impenetrable walls of sludge, at points suffocating and claustrophobic at others warped and lysergic. though they share their field with other stoner weeds like electric wizard, bongzilla, witchsorrow et al. there's an interesting element of crunching crazy horse plod which elevates the sludge from the usual stoner cliches. drawled vocals battling a sewer of reverb, the gates of noise crashing down in flame, this is an astounding record.
