The band started working on this album after a short creative break following the tour for their previous release, Presto.
This album combines the best elements of all of Rush's eras. It features the synthesizers from their 80s era, the harder-rocking arrangements and complexities from the 70s era, and even gives a glimpse of the sound they would explore in the 90s.
