Title

one of rough trade's island 50th anniversary selection - 50 crucial titles, specially selected by us to highlight the unique contribution this seminal label has made to british music since 1959. sandy denny was a cool british chanteuse who lived just 37 years. her work decorated a palette which included traditional celtic music (in her time with fairport convention and fotheringay) as well as some lovely attempts at singing midtempo swing. this album, originally released in 1972, is a superb introduction to her music. beautifully recorded with close-miked vocals, 'sandy' features terrific song selection, a sympathetic band, breathtaking orchestral charts from harry robinson and gorgeous singing. the album contains her finest moment as a soloist, 'listen, listen'. there is also a stunning a cappella offering, 'quiet joys of brotherhood' and a song which would be the envy of carole king, 'the music weaver'. this cd re-issue is digitally remastered, has five bonus tracks, new sleevenotes and enhanced packaging.
