Searchin' For Some Lovin'

Debbie Trusty's Searchin' For Some Lovin' is a Nick Martinelli and David Todd production that still sounds like the future while remaining unmistakably 1982. Her breathless, heartbreaking yet sassy vocals meet big eighties electro bass and stellar synth keys in a deeply funky early-80s boogie classic.

Famously sampled by 33 1/3 Queen on the Nu Groove track “Searchin'” in 1990, the vocal version opens with an ominous synth before building into dancefloor brilliance. The instrumental heads into a strutting, acidic dub, offering a soaring counterpart to the vocal.

West End Records drew from soul, R&B, gospel and funk to shape the sounds of the Paradise Garage and Studio 54. Led by co-founder Mel Cheren, the label helped introduce the twelve-inch single and left an enduring mark on disco, hip-hop and house.
