A true artist refuses to stand still, and this is a trait that is immediately apparent in the music of Sandra-Mae Lux whose album 'Seasons in Jazz' is quite a contrast to her disco inspired debut from 2020, Happily Ever Now. For her sophomore album Sandra-Mae has returned to her first love, jazz. Drawing her compositional influence from the Great American Songbook, and in particular the golden age of songwriting from the late 1920's to the 1950's. After an intensive period of study, and a move to London in 2017 followed by the release of Happily Ever Now, Sandra-Mae has focused on her singing and song writing, the fruits of which are beautifully captured on this album. Recorded in sessions that took place in December 2023 and July 2024 there are two different bands featuring pianist Rob Barron, Canadian Tristan Paxton on guitar who recorded his tracks from his home in Vancouver, Calum Gourley on bass and drummer Sebastiaan de Krom and the other with Christian Vaughan on piano, bassist Dave Jones and on drums, Tristan Maillot. With the Great American Songbook in mind, Sandra-Mae and her partner and lyricist Alan Marriott set about putting their own take on this classic style they loved so much with all eleven original songs that bring a refreshing approach to the art of song writing. With songs that encompass Bossa Nova's, ballads and swinging mid-tempo numbers, Seasons in Jazz is set to bring forth the standards of tomorrow.
