Title

Mildred Maude is a band consisting of Matt Ashdown on guitar, Lee Wade on bass, and Louie Newlands on drums, hailing from Cornwall. The band is named after one of their grandmas and their music is described as improvised noise that balances on the edge of chaos while still being incredibly beautiful, reminiscent of a mix between Sonic Youth and Slowdive.

Their second album, Sleepover, showcases influences from bands like Stereolab, Can, Butthole Surfers, Yo La Tengo, and Sun Ra. Three out of the four tracks on the album are over 10 minutes long. The album features tracks like "Trevena," "Elliott’s Floor," which transitions into My Bloody Valentine’s "Only Shallow," and "Glen Plays Moses," which is described as epic in every way. The outlier on the album is "Chemo Brain," a Fugazi-esque track named after a side-effect of bassist Lee’s cancer treatment.

The album artwork for Sleepover is inspired by bassist Lee's cancer treatment, featuring a molecular model of cyclophosphamide, one of the drugs he received. Mildred Maude takes a DIY approach to their music, finding their own path in Cornwall where they feel more connected to the 1990s scene of Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert, and the Rephlex Records crowd.

Guitarist Matt draws inspiration from historic places of worship in Cornwall, such as St Just Church and Gwennap Pit in Redruth, imagining these spaces during their live shows. The band aims to create a sense of togetherness during their performances, reminiscent of the medieval Miracle Plays that once took place in the Duchy. The new album is set to be released on Sonic Cathedral.
