Courant Zéro is the new alias of Montréal multimedia artist and Kohlenstoff co-founder Maxime Corbeil-Perron, marking a return to recording-focused electronic music after years in award-winning experimental film and A/V work. Solari brings that cinematic sense into a richly detailed set shaped by ambient, IDM, glitch, noise, modern composition, and electroacoustic counterpoint.
A key presence in Montréal sound art since the early 2010s, Corbeil-Perron has moved between projects including Political Ritual, Dresden, and Le poisson d'argent. Here, piano, Buchla, synths, broken beat, looping systems, and melodic drift meet references to Manon Labrecque, Tarkovsky, personal grief, and mortality.
From the cavernous title track and the widescreen build of En deçà du réel to the gorgeous piano digitalia of Horizon n'arrête and the 9-minute Unyeldd, Solari balances disorientation with warmth. Fans of Floating Points, Jan Jelinek, Squarepusher, Tim Hecker, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Do Make Say Think should take note.
