Soundcity Joburg - South Africa's Township Soul 1969-1981

During the ’60s and ’70s, American soul and funk found a new life in South Africa as local musicians fused these sounds with traditional rhythms and jazz. The resulting style became known as Township Soul, an umbrella term for a wide range of musical approaches.

Soundcity Joburg - South Africa’s Township Soul 1969-1981 captures this scene through 22 songs from the city’s record labels, studios and performance venues.
