Seminal New Orleans funk here from Allen Tousaint’s long-time house band. Classic samples abound across Struttin’, the band’s 1970 LP - everyone from Dilla to A Tribe Called Quest has had their way with Handclapping Song. But the songs, from the muscular r&b of Chicken Strut to the lights-low soul of Wichita Lineman, are strong enough that they deserve to be heard in their own right.
