The first single from The Kinks’ fourth studio album Face to Face, “Sunny Afternoon” breezed into the charts in June ‘66. Ray Davies’ satirical tale of lost wealth, turned taxtime blues into a baroquepop anthem, becoming an eradefining classic that captured the spirit and satire of 1960s Britain and cemented The Kinks’ reputation for wit, narrative flair, and distinctly British storytelling.
The quintessential sunshine classic, “Sunny Afternoon” is a timeless snapshot of the decade at its wry, melodic best and remains one of The Kinks’ most irresistible tunes. It topped the UK charts for two glorious weeks during the magic World Cup summer of ’66.
This exclusive, limited edition sunshine coloured 7” features the remastered original mono A and B side singles “Sunny Afternoon” and “I’m Not Like Everybody Else”, presented with new 1966tastic artwork. It also includes a very special written message from Kinks friend and fan Sir Geoff Hurst; legendary England footballer and hat trick hero of the World Cup winning team of July 30th, 1966.
