Testing the Waters

Testing the Waters is a long-form electroacoustic work that moves through a series of episodic sections, tracing a drifting sonic journey. Field recordings sit alongside instrumental and electronic passages, all shaped in the studio into a landscape that is always in motion.

Originally composed in Berlin in spring 2023 as a commission for WDR 3 Radio in Cologne, the piece is threaded through with the sound and idea of water: trickling, flowing, resonating and changing form.

As both material and metaphor, water gives Testing the Waters its title and its quiet pull, shaping the music’s sense of movement, permeability and drift.
