The 1961 Newport Set

John Coltrane's never before released 1961 performance at the Newport Jazz Festival. At the time, his group consisted of a quintet with Trane as the only horn, plus piano, two basses, and drums.

As a bonus, Essential Jazz Classics have added another complete performance from the same year, recorded in Helsinki, Finland, during the tour on which Eric Dolphy joined the group. This is the first time this set is presented in the correct pitch. Includes four bonus tracks and eight-page booklet.
