Back in stock, an excellent overview of, and introduction to, this prolific young artist's already substantial music catalogue. Includes songs from solo albums, group appearances, and collaborations.
Eliza Carthy was born into the hotbed of folk heritage by parents Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson, and it was little surprise that she joined in on the act. Apparently, she learnt fiddle rather than guitar like her father due to him being away so much on tour. From an early age, she played with The Watersons, her father, and then as part of the Waterdaughters.
Branching out on her own in the nineties, she released albums with Nancy Kerr, with her first self-composed track "The Wrong Favour" appearing alongside the customary traditional music. As well as appearing on all of the Waterson : Carthy albums, Eliza then went on to make five more solo records, two of which 'Red Rice' and 'Anglicana' were nominated for Mercury Music Prizes.
