the musician hans-joachim roedelius is one of the most prolific musicians of the german avant-garde and a key figure in the birth of krautrock, synthesizer pop and ambient music through his releases with cluster, moebius, brian eno and his solo work. 'the diary of the unforgotten' is a collection of recordings from the years 1972 to 1978 and was first released in 1990, now released on cd (digipack with different artwork) and for the first time ever on 180 gram vinyl. between the years of 1972 and 1978, roedelius and dieter moebius, later joined by michael rother, lived out on a country estate at forst in the idyllic weser uplands. it was here that the harmonia albums, legendary recordings with brian eno and various splendid cluster albums were created. both the house itself and the surrounding landscape held a magical fascination for roedelius who translated his feelings and impressions into music, giving rise to the 'self-portrait' series - 'selbstportrait vi', in particular the 24 minutes of the 'hommage forst' centrepiece, is a distant echo from that forst era. liner notes by roedelius himself and asmus tietchens.
