before he died in 2001 the legendary songwriter and metal guitarist chuck schuldiner, already responsible for almost singlehandedly creating the death metal genre with his group 'death,' embarked on control denied. a foray into power metal while still containing schuldiner's death tendencies, 'the fragile art of existence' was an existential, pummelling metal album with excellent, soaring vocals and 21st century production. the songwriting is paramount - moving away from the sheer brutality of death, control denied were an epic exercise in emotional stonewalling, atmosphere and stirring melody. this double disc reissue contains many of the demos for the album - a fascinating insight into this singular talent's practices.
