The House That Man Built / To A Nation Of Animal Lovers

The House That Man Built was recorded and mixed at Southern Studios, North London in 1981, then released in 1982 on Crass Records. It was engineered by John Loder under the watchful eye of Crass' Penny Rimbaud, credited here as Elvis Rimrod.

From the opening strike of Conflict, the band made their purpose clear. These early tracks are primal, basic and raw, capturing Conflict learning their instruments and pushing hard into their own sound. Penny and John channelled that energy brilliantly, and the single quickly connected with the growing anarcho-punk movement.

Featuring Crass frontman Steve Ignorant, To A Nation of Animal Lovers was recorded and mixed at Southern Studios in April 1983. A fierce statement against animal abuse, testing and cruelty, it helped place Conflict at the forefront of the early eighties animal rights movement.

After John Loder's passing, the original multi-track tapes were returned to the band. Colin and Gav King had them baked and digitised for remixing, though Colin passed before it could happen. Gav King completed the remixes, while Sid Truelove of Rubella Ballet remastered the original ¼ inch tape mixes.
