Miles Davis' famed quintet sessions - featuring John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones - were recorded in three sessions, over the course of a year, beginning in 1955. At the helm was the legendary engineer Rudy Van Gelder, who simulated nightclub sets at his studio. Virtually every one of the 42 tracks in this collection, chronologically sequenced, has become a classic - making up such iconic albums as Miles, Cookin', Relaxin', Workin', Steamin' and Miles Davis and the Modern Jazz Giants.
