After two albums on Sacred Bones, Gloria De Oliveira returns with her third full-length, The Lying Swans, now on La Double Vie. It’s a record where darkness reveals as much as it conceals, tracing the uneasy space where grief lingers and joy starts to come back into focus.
Produced by Randall Dunn, known for work with Anna von Hausswolff, Sunn O))) and Marissa Nadler, and recorded across Iceland, New York and Berlin, the album unfolds like Gothic fiction in song, inspired by the image of a woman fleeing a haunted house.
Lead single Fading Faces opens that world with shimmering synths, thunderous drums and glam-rock guitar. “I numb my hurt one last time,” sings de Oliveira, her voice yearning and exposed. She also directed the video, set on a mystical Brazilian beach of black cliffs and pink sand.
