The fourth album by singer Willie Hutch is the soundtrack of the 1973 film The Mack. It is recognized as one of the finest examples of cinematic soul and funk of the early seventies. Hutch combines deep, dramatic orchestration, lush strings and horns, wah-wah and funk guitar with his smooth but expressive vocals, moving from romantic soul on tracks such as “I Choose You” and “Mother’s Theme” to hard-driving funk and chase music on “Slick,” “Mack Man” and “Brother’s Gonna Work It Out.” Produced and arranged by Hutch himself, the album has a highly cohesive, narrative quality that mirrors the film while standing on its own as a sophisticated soul record. With a totally renewed back-cover, this vinyl edition comes after more than ten years from the last.
