For more than 30 years, Hayden has made songs from life’s easily missed moments, building something quietly grand across ten studio albums. Family, memory, love, loss, absurdity and the beauty of ordinary days all run through his work.

The Recent Past is less nostalgic than sharply observant. It lingers on that strange pull toward a not-so-distant time, while trying to stay present as everything speeds up. Heartache, plain-spoken truths, comfort and a few danceable turns all sit side by side.

After years of mixing his own records, Hayden handed final mixes to Grammy-winning engineer Tom Schick, known for work with Jeff Tweedy, Wilco, Mavis Staples and Willie Nelson. Also featured are Adam Hindle, Matt Kelly, Miranda Mulholland and Ben Whiteley.
