The South Facade

Since forming in Cambridge in 2016, Ugly have built a reputation as a relentless live band. Their 2024 breakout EP Twice Around The Sun earned serious acclaim and marked the six-piece out as one of the UK’s most ambitious new groups.

The South Facade, their debut album, has been taking shape for nearly three years, from writing retreats in a converted barn overlooking Ely Cathedral to rehearsal rooms, bedrooms, studios and the stage. These songs have been pulled apart, rebuilt and refined in full view of audiences.

Recorded in Wales and completed in London with producer Balázs Altsach, the record balances dense, meticulous arrangements with real spontaneity. Lead single Marina is a swaggering, raw and playfully theatrical introduction to an album that keeps pushing guitar music somewhere fresh.
