Tiarn

After the fires and floods of the Australian bush on her debut, Soon, reissued by Phil Elverum on P.W. Elverum and Sun, tiarn turns toward the Pacific. Classical and electronic arrangements drift through these songs with a deep pull toward connection, memory, and the natural world.

Living in isolation by the ocean, watching winter whale migrations, Stretton would swim during the brief blue hour. Melodies arrived in the icy salt water and followed her home to be recorded that night. At its core, tiarn holds ecological grief and a search for connection in a changing world.

The album also draws from home camera footage of Stretton's family in Japan in the 1990s, before she was born. Using the untouched synth her parents bought in Tokyo in 1991, she recorded to the images directly. Voices, insects, weather, and movement blur documentation and composition into something quietly uncovered.
