Trentemøller's new untitled album explodes with the force of a supernova before dissolving into swooning vocals. Across 10 songs, maximalist guitar-noise blowouts collide with some of the most bruising shoegaze you'll hear this year. "The noisy got noisier, the dreamy got dreamier," says Trentemøller. "I was ruthless this time."
Opener Swerve, recorded with Vienna-based singer Sakura, crashes into searing walls of sound. The radically intuitive energy persists on the anthemic Visceral and the industrial fuzz of Your Love Walks Alone, featuring Sune Rose Wagner of the Raveonettes.
Coyote deconstructs synths into feedback and brutal guitars, while To Mist and Halved, featuring Midwife, offer nocturnal respite. Vocals appear on every track, with contributors including Sakura, Anika, Midwife, Tan Cologne, Sune Rose Wagner, Jonas Bjerre of Mew and Emma Acs.
