London-via-Manchester three-piece, The Early Mornings release their sophomore EP Ultra-Modern Rain via new label home Practise Music. Over the course of 5 songs, Ultra-Modern Rain see’s The Early Mornings cement their renown for crafting tight and spiky minimal post-punk. The EP also shows the group dive headfirst into dynamics - bringing big, distorted noise sections and effortlessly marrying them to cool and distilled no-wave moments. Vocalist Annie Leaders' trademark sardonic singing style shares space with sincerity and seriousness across this infectious EP.
This release also includes the 2021 debut EP Unnecessary Creation.
The track 'Ultra-Modern Rain’ is a driven and fun-loving anthem, the perfect calling card of what makes The Early Mornings so special. The song cuts about in all directions, through verses of serrated post-punk with droll vocal delivery, to soaring, sing-along choruses through to the tracks tender ending. Ultra-Modern Rain shows why The Early Mornings are masters of unpredictability. Annie Leader and Danny Shannon met Rhys Davies and formed The Early Mornings in Manchester in 2019, after Rhys responded to an advert they placed looking for a drummer. The bands listed on the advert included The Breeders, The Velvet Underground, Fire Engines, The Feelies and Cate le Bon. After finding their feet in the Manchester DIY scene, word of their high-energy live performances quickly spread, leading to a well-received support slot with post-punk legends The Raincoats. In the last year, the band relocated to Brixton, London, where they now call home.
