Vexillology

Vexillology is the debut album by the Moroccan producer Guedra Guedra, who gained attention with his 12” release via On The Corner in 2020.

Guedra Guedra presents an elevation of tribal consciousness and futurism from underground musical universes. The album offers listeners an immersive experience with hypnotic and rhythmic arrangements rooted in ancient culture. Referring to both Sub-Saharan and North African cultures, Guedra Guedra synthesizes his pan-African appreciation and immerses listeners in the traditional rhythms of these lands, especially within the Berber culture found in countries like Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Northern Mali, Northern Niger, and beyond.

The album is a celebration of cultural roots and future bass, bubbling in the hotbeds of the global underground. Guedra Guedra is known for his exploration of tribal rhythms and instruments of the past, as well as dancefloor innovations from contemporary underground scenes.

For Vexillology, Guedra Guedra utilized a myriad of immersive recording techniques. The album is built upon field recordings capturing live cultural events, tribal festivities, and experiences from his travels. By incorporating video in his field recordings, Guedra Guedra captures the essence of the moment and incorporates it into his productions.
