For fans of Daughter, Mazzy Star and the Kills. Chicago-born singer-songwriter Emily Cross and her engineer husband Dan Duszynski make their music on isolated Moon Phase Ranch in Dripping Springs, Texas. A combination of Emily's visual way of working (a trained artist) and the sum of Dan's years of engineering makes for a unique sonic experience. Ominous jangled and jittery guitars, breathy, wistful vocals and hovering drawn strings brood. Soaring vocals bask against a backing of ethereal shimmering while hordes of clamouring guitars push impatiently for their turn at the fore. Swirling ribbons of sound, Hammer horror organs and a crooning from the shadows into the trickled instrumentation of samples and sound. They come over like a 21st century Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra, except that Lee and Nancy never got round to mixing crunchy alt rock guitars and buzzing electronics with ethereal folk singing.
