Bristol-based alternative outfit Pocket Sun unveil Watercolours, a shape-shifting collection of psychedelic soul, alternative pop, and saturated grooves. While the band started developing the demos, their bassist Seb spent four months in the Alps, building his parts remotely. Recordings were sent back and forth between the band, with ideas gradually evolving across the distance. In fact, just days before recording the band finally heard the songs come together as a whole. Many of the album's lyrics were also written thousands of miles away in Marrakech, Morocco. Away from the rehearsal room and day-to-day life, the songs began to take on their own identities - shaped by different places, perspectives and experiences before eventually coming together as one record. Born out of the band’s collective appreciation for the polished sounds of the late 1970s and early 1980s, Watercolours is a hybrid album, both in inspiration and execution. The dusty drums, soulful vocals and psychedelic textures of the past, sit seamlessly alongside the soundscapes, layering and production techniques of Pocket Sun’s modern contemporaries.
