Telescreens, Why the Lights Flicker, pushes their ethos further than ever. Recorded at The Bridge in Williamsburg, Brooklyn during summer 2024, the album explores spiritual disconnection in a hyper-capitalist world & the search for clarity in chaos. “The goal of this record was to capture the energy of the four of us playing live, we rehearsed every day for 6 months and recorded all together in a room for two straight weeks. Capture the lightning, immortalize it, at all costs – that was the goal,” says frontman Jackson Hamm. Sonically, the album features heavy guitar anthems, cathartic choruses that strike like revelation, and ballads that bleed like truth. Telescreens craft a sound that’s both nostalgic and forward-facing, leaning into the raw power of classic rock while effortlessly embodying a modern vitality. Their single “Nothing” is a perfect example of their vision, juxtaposing lyrics that suffer with apathy against massive guitar riffs and pounding drums which reveal a desperation for something more. For Telescreens, Why the Lights Flicker is their magnum opus. Their debut The Return (2020) introduced them as bold storytellers. Their 2024 LP 7, solidified them as a band whose whole is far greater than the sum of its parts. Why the Lights Flicker is an album that shows purpose precedes process, inviting listeners to step outside the polarization of our times, the isolation created by our screens, and closer together as humans.
