Soot Sprite presents their debut album, Wield Your Hope Like A Weapon.
Since their debut single in 2018, Soot Sprite has evolved from a solo lo-fi bedroom pop project to a full-fledged touring alt-indie shoegaze band. Sonically, Wield Your Hope Like A Weapon draws inspiration from various alt-indie influences, blending shimmering melodies with raw, visceral energy.
According to Soot Sprite's Elise Cook, the album was influenced by artists such as "Clean" by Soccer Mommy, "Cranberry" by Hovvdy, "Sweet Pill" by Ovlov, and "Wednesday". At its core, the album is a statement about resisting apathy. Cook explains, “it’s about embracing empathy over apathy, despite the constant stream of worldly horrors. If we have empathy we can have hope, and with hope then change is always possible.”
The title of the album, inspired by Rebecca Solnit’s book ‘Hope In The Dark’, reflects the pressing need for action in a world that is becoming increasingly chaotic.
