On this set, Jenkins plays with a sharp, expressive voice that at times recalls Charlie Parker, with touches of Phil Woods and Jackie McLean. He more than holds his own alongside his better-known sidemen, bringing plenty of creativity, emotion, and excitement to this boppish session.

It’s a high-quality set from start to finish, and one that leaves you wondering why John Jenkins didn’t go on to become a bigger name.
