Fatback

Fatback, also known as The Fatback Band, are a US funk group formed in New York City in 1970. Emerging from a scene where funk was getting leaner, tougher and more dancefloor-focused, they built their name on hard grooves, tight rhythm playing and a clear feel for what works in a room.

That directness runs through releases such as Hot Box, while Bill Curtis and Friends With The Fatback Band points back to the group’s long-running connection with founder Bill Curtis. More than a passing alias, Fatback is the name attached to one of funk’s durable working bands: rooted in New York, built for movement, and still easy to place the moment the rhythm section locks in.
